For those of you without AMC who have been wondering what all the hubbub was about, Anchor Bay Entertainment will be resurrecting the series on Blu-ray and DVD March 8th.

We’ve got looks at both types of box art below, but word on what sort of bonus features the set might include are still pending. At the very least, I’d expect something looking at the show’s source material, the outstanding Image comic by Robert Kirkman. I’d also like to request some zombie commentary. I think those crazy kids might have more on their mind than just braaaaiiiins, if only somebody would give them a chance and shove a microphone in front of them.

It was just a few hours ago that we were talking about two competing projects inspired by Snow White, and two different A-list actresses considered to play the evil queen. Now we’re already moving on to the younger talent for one of the projects, Snow White and the Huntsman, which is indevelopment at Universal with a script that made the Black List today. The Huntsman producers, according to THR, are looking into four different relatively unknown actresses to play one of the titular role, with Michael Fassender also considered to play the other half of the lead duo as the Huntsman.

The shortlist of four includes Riley Keough (Elvis’s granddaughter seen in The Runaways) and Felicity Jones (in Julie Taymor’s The Tempest), plus Bella Heathcoat and Alicia Vikander, whose entire careers thus far have taken place overseas. The studio is still willing to change their mind and look for a better known actress– Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and Saoirse Ronan, predictably, have all been considered– but right now they’re in the process of screen testing the unknowns.

With Relativity Media also in the process of developing their own project, it’s going to be a race to the start line to see which studio can make their movie first. The cast they’re lining up so far looks pretty solid, and I’m especially intrigued by them picking Fassbender– between his lecherous character in Fish Tank, his upcoming role in Jane Eyre and this, he could be developing a weird track record for working with teenage actresses.

Imagine: suspenseful scene in the shower (the girl who would be stabbed when a shower) in the famous movie: Psycho (by Alfred Hitchcock) … but without the music! Thriller without music? There are many levels of tension is lost without the help of music.

Music has become an integral part of the film (any genre). Even some film music deeply ingrained in the minds of his audience. Some people will always be lulled into the world far away, into the nature Cassablanca, when I hear As Time Goes By. Some people are still humming “Lara’s Theme, and remembering the epic love Doctor Zhivago. Or whistling the theme song Love Story at the time feeling romantic. Many films became immortal because of the song / music.

And it was swiftly industrialize on the Hollywood phenomenon. Music / song from the movie – the big screen or television – became a commodity in itself.

Development
In the era of silent movie, so the background music with a variety of reasons: as a legacy of theatrical tradition, as the noise silencer of the projector, and as the giver of ‘depth’ on mute two-dimensional image on the screen.

In the era of silent movies, music, movies began to draw up its own language. In the first movie musical to continue the tradition of silent film era, namely using the repertoire of Western music that has been there – mainly 19th century European classical music. In the 1930s, the public began to write a special composition for a movie. Some filmmakers – such as the film maker in Russia – to use music in order to explore the relation between music (some part of the sound) and images. Although those movie makers had to spend a lot of costs, even tough taking for some cash advance loans, the ambitious project will still run according to plan. Most movies put to music as a decoration or just a tool in building the atmosphere.

In the 1930s it began to arrange dictionary Hollywood film music through the composer who trained in the tradition of European music. Music-movie vocabulary established in the era of the 1940s. Leading names in those days, among others, Max Steiner (King Kong (1933)) and Bernard Herrmann – Citizen Kane with works include (1941) until Psycho (1960).

The dominance of music-film vocabulary that uses European-style symphony and began crashing in the 1950s: the influence of jazz into mainstream Hollywood films. The pemulanya include Alex North (A Street Car Named Desire (1951), Cleopatra (1963), Who’s Affraid of Virginia Wolf? (1966)) and Elmer Bernstein (The Man With The Golden Arm (1955), Magnificent Seven (1960 )). One of the most famous composer is Henry Manciny flow. Film music with influences of jazz’s natural to film-makers preferred because in addition to expressive, more contemporary music of European Romanesque style, also did not require a big orchestra, to be cheaper.

Era of the 1950s was also the era of experimental music / sound more diverse. In India, Satyajit Ray’s use of ethnic music by Ravi Shankar for the film, Pather Panchali. In Japan, Fumio Hayasaka using musical instruments of Japan to Akira Kurosawa film, Rashomon (1950) and Seven Samurai (1955). Europe gave birth to grip the music-studio film with a small orchestra. New-wave movement in France that helped popularize the grip, and gave birth to the music-movie characters like Michael Legrand (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), Summer of ’42 (1972) – in which he won an Oscar, and Yentl (1983) – also won an Oscar).

Experimentation in the 1950s was followed by experimentation in the 1960s. The world is beset music revolution, with its main heroes: the Beatles. The most prominent of the music revolution – in addition to emerge variety of ethnic sounds and jazz – is a rock music emerge as a new force. Film music repertoire also participate taxable impact, and influence began embedded rock. One of the masters of film music with rock influence was John Barry, whose works fill almost all the James Bond films, also, among others, the Born Free (1966), Out of Africa (1985), Dances With Wolves (1990) and Indecent Proposal (1993 ).

In the 1980s, several recent tendency of sticking to the surface. First, the use of synthesizers. The names that stand out in a flow that is Vangelis (Chariots of Fire (1981), Blade Runner (1982)), Tangerine Dream (Legend (1985), Vision Quest (1985)) and Giorgio Moroder (Flash Dance (1983) and Top Gun (1986)). Film music with the synthesizer to give the feel of a typical: artificial electronic sounds very appropriate to build the atmosphere of ‘another world’ (a tale of nature, futuristic or dream) in the image on the screen.

The second trend, avant garde music not only be ‘owned’ avant garde films only. Vanguard music also entered into the mainstream. David Byrne, an avant garde musician, arranging compositions for Something Wild (1986) and contribute to in The Last Emperor (1987) which, among others, won an Oscar for good music.

The third trend is the tendency of building good film music from popular songs. Films such as Big Chill (1983), Down And Out in Beverly Hills (1986) and Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) intentionally build an atmosphere through music, old music that had to bury themselves in the collective consciousness of American audiences – in the first two films, it is reasonably required by the story. Another variation from the trend of good film music is that it consciously chose rock songs that are or will be popular, such as Against All Odds (1984 – and popularized the singles from Phil Collins with the same title) and White Nights (1985 – raises the hit Lionel Ritchie, Say You Say Me). These variations affected a television series, Miami Vice.

Last trend also opens opportunities for alternative music and gloriously of  ‘black’ music – especially R & B and rap – decorate the Hollywood movies of the 1990s. Also linked to the appreciation of black music with the emergence of the black trend in Hollywood movies led by Spike Lee (Jungle Fever, Malcolm X) and John Singleton (Boyz ‘n the Hood, Poetic Justice). However, good black music for black music that tends racist movies it also extends to the large currents which are held by filmmakers ‘bule’. For example, Space Jam: the movie looks as ‘owned’ black people – basketball hero Michael Jordan and R & B music and rap dominate the film. Though cartoon characters loonie Toons (opposite Jordan), is the product of a culture of ‘white’ Americans (not to mention the ranks of the film’s producer, who scrape a large profit by selling loads ‘black’, was also white).

It attracts millions of tourists from the around the world each year. Due to its fame and cultural identity as the historical center of movie studios and movie stars, the word “Hollywood” is often used as a metonym of American cinema, and is often interchangeably used to refer to the greater Los Angeles area in general. The nicknames StarStruck Town and Tinseltown refer to Hollywood and its movie industry.

A Ranch named “Hollywood”

When Spanish explorers first entered the area now known as Hollywood, Native Americans were living in the canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains. Before long, the Indians had been moved to missions and the land which Hollywood now occupies was divided in two by the Spanish Government. Acreage to the west became part of Rancho La Brea and settlements to the East became Rancho Los Feliz.

By the 1870s an agricultural community flourished in the area and crops ranging from hay and grain to subtropical bananas and pineapples were thriving. During the 1880s, the Ranchos were sub-divided. In 1886, H. H. Wilcox bought an area of Rancho La Brea that his wife then christened “Hollywood.” Within a few years, Wilcox had devised a grid plan for his new community, paved Prospect Avenue (now Hollywood Boulevard) for his main street and was selling large residential lots to wealthy Midwesterners looking to build homes so they could “winter in California.”

Prospect Avenue soon became a prestigious residential street populated with large Queen Anne, Victorian, and Mission Revival houses. Mrs. Daeida Wilcox raised funds to build churches, schools and a libraryand Hollywood quickly became a complete and prosperous community. The community incorporated in 1903, but its independence was short-lived, as the lack of water forced annexation in 1910 to the city of Los Angeles, which had a surplus supply of water.

In 1911, the Nestor Company opened Hollywood’s first film studio in an old tavern on the corner of Sunset and Gower. Not long thereafter Cecil B. DeMille and D. W. Griffith began making movies in the areadrawn to the community for its open space and moderate climate.

New Industry

The needs of this thriving new industry created radical changes in the community causing a clash between older and newer residents. Acres of agricultural land south of what-is-now Hollywood Boulevard were subdivided and developed as housing for the enormous numbers of workers that movie-making required.

High-rise commercial buildings began to spring up along Hollywood Boulevard three competing real-estate interests caused concentrations of development at Highland, Cahuenga, and at Vine. It wasn’t long before nearly all the homes along the Boulevard were replaced by commercial buildings linking the three corners.

Banks, restaurants, clubs and movie palaces sprang up, catering to the demands of the burgeoning film industry during the 1920s and 1930s. The architectural styles of the buildings were representative of those most popular between the World Wars. Banks were typically designed in the more formal Beaux Arts styles, but other buildings in the community took on more playful personalities.

The ornamental Spanish Colonial Revival style reflected Hollywood’s self-conscious extravagance while the new Art Deco and Moderne styles fit the community’s aspirations for glamour and sophistication.

Commercial and Entertainment Area

Hollywood has been anything but static, however, and after a few decades as the capital of film glamour, the neighborhood changed again. Although much of the studio work remained in Hollywood, many stars moved to Beverly Hills, and the elegant shops and restaurants left with them.

In the 1960s, music recording studios and offices began moving to Hollywood and offshoot of the nightclubs further west on Sunset Boulevard. Other businesses, however, continued to migrate to different parts of the city. Hollywood today is a diverse, vital, and active community striving to preserve the elegant buildings from its past. Much of the movie industry remains in the area, although the neighborhood’s outward appearance has changed.

In 1985, the Hollywood Boulevard commercial and entertainment district was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places protecting the neighborhood’s important buildings and seeing to it that the significance of Hollywood’s past would always be a part of its future.

With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu.
